The SAIS Guide to Comparative Politics aims to create a comprehensive guide to comparative politics in countries around the world. This guide is a multi-year project created by students in my graduate class on Comparative National Systems. The top student papers each year are chosen for the site. They analyze countries of the world according to the SPECIPIO framework I developed, which focuses on eight elements of country politics: Stateness, Political Regime, Economic Development, Culture and History, Institutions, Party Systems, International Influences, and Ownership. The SPECIPIO framework is not a theory, but rather a widely-applicable heuristic device to be used to for practical analysis of national politics. In future, this guide will be posted on the official SAIS website; it is still in the early stages of development.
